What color?

Postby mison79 » Mon Oct 18, 2010 8:25 am

I have a litter after two agouti parents
The mother, Stjärna (a little bit more red than the male)

The father, Guldgruvans Thar

Then some pics of the litter from 13 days old to 3 weeks age (one is darker than the rest even in coat and ears).

There are four lighter coloured babies and one ordinary agouti.

Hello :)

this colour looks like the Red Eyed Roborovski - i have some of this new colour in the UK and i have had two litters of Red Eyed Robos so far :)

I think the father of your litter is a Red Eyed Roborovski and the mother is a carrier of this recessive gene - carrying this gene does make the robos look much richer in colour.

When the babies are born they have red eyes but they darken up very quickly over time. In the UK we are still working with this new gene but we think it may be the Rust gene.

Thank you so much! I had my suspicions about this, but I was stupid to not look at them before 13 days of age. So I didn´t know this. I have come to this conclusion becouse of the coat color and there ears if I compare with the agouti babie in the litter.

I don´t know if the picture is to unclear, but here you have one of the female that is brighter, I think her eye look like brownish. And one of the mother with her daughter.

I nearly forgot to ask: Do the color have a name or is it only called red eyed? I have looked around a little bit and I think the creme roborovski on this side look very similar to both mine and yours babies:

Hiya :)

yes, that is where my two red eyed robos originally came from :)

In Holland and Czech they are calling it the Cream gene, but in the UK we think it is the Rust gene as it dilutes the colour and is an agouti colour, but we are still working with the gene, so will have to wait and see :)

but yes, this is all the same gene, but just called different names :)
